Tracy Rose Chevalier was born in Washington D.C on 19th October 1962. Her father is Douglas Chevalier and mother is Helen Chevalier. Her father worked with the Washington Post as a photographer for over 30 years. When Tracy was 8 years old, her mother died.

In 1980, she graduated from Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School in Bethesda, Maryland. After getting a Bachelor’s Degree in English from the Oberlin College, she started working in a publishing house in 1984. She studied Creative Writing in 1993 and received a Masters Degree in the same from the University of East Anglia. She is married to Jonathan Drori and has one child from the marriage.

Tracy Chevalier books are written in the Historical fiction genre. The Virgin Blue was her first novel which was published in 1997 in the UK. W H Smith chose her for the showcase of the new authors. Girl With a Pearl Earring was her second novel which was published in 1999. This novel was inspired by the painting of a famous painter, Vermeer. It was Tracy Chevalier best sellers novel. It has been translated into 38 languages all over the world. In 2014, more than 5 million copies of Girl With a Pearl Earring were sold. In 2000, it also won Barnes and Noble Discover Award. In 2013, her novel The Last Runaway was recognized with the Ohioana Book Award.
